The pruning season!

We are in the middle of February. Winter is ending and with it the end of the pruning period of the trees is approaching (end of March).

Now that the weather is starting to open, we need to think seriously about pruning our trees before they wake up from their winter dormancy, and start growing buds on their branches.

Remember that pruning trees has a beneficial effect on their growth as any diseased or dry branches are removed while at the same time dynamic young branches develop that replace them. Observe the presence of lesions (rot), small or large bumps along the trunk and branches (infestation by pathogenic microorganisms), the presence of holes (as a result of insect infestation) and proceed to repair.

This may include a simple pruning to remove the affected branches or a severe pruning to drastically reduce the crown or even trim it if necessary.
